This is my first transcription, so if it's wrong... oops.
I read a different tab for this song by Mike B but it just
didn't sound right to me, sorry who ever Mike B is. The other
tabs on OLGA for this song just don't seem accurate to me either.

like those high notes in the chorus and bridge. But when I play
along with the song it sounds good to me :)

You can play this in a simple drop-d tuning, but if you want to play along
to the CD, you'll have to drop all the strings down 2 semitones from there.
I tabbed this because the one already on olga.net seemed very wrong indeed.
I can't claim its perfect, but it does sound OK with the CD playing.
I haven't tabbed the solo, i'm afraid.
Play the riffs in this order:
1 2 1 3, then repeat 1 & 3 until the chorus.
RIFF 1

F|-----2----------------0---0----
C|---2---2-----3----------0---0--

ALTERNATIVE CHORUS
This is slightly easier to play, and also sounds pretty good:

Song: Heart-Shaped Box
Artist: Nirvana (u.s)
Album: In Utero
Camparisong: All the other versions were incomlete or
inadiquit, so I decided to sit down and make my own, oh yeah, this thing
was a bitch to make so enjoy it for gods sake, and my name is Mike
B. i tabed this
Ok, heres a great song by the greatest musician ever.
If you want to play the song along with the record,
your gunna have to tune down half a step and then drop
D tuning, so, from lowest to highest, its
D flat,A flat,D flat,G flat,B flat, E flat
But when my band plays it, I just drop D, its a lot
easier that way, ok, and off we go, but keep in mind this is my first
tab thang, so excuse some mistakes, but I think this is almost
100% correct...oh yes this song was written for two guitars,
but it can be easily played with one, I'll point out where and what not
B=bend 1/2 step
/=slide
Main Jig, and intro (when plyed live, kurt adds a few
notes here and
there, but I am far to lazy to tab that)
------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------
-------2------------------------------2---
-----2---2-----3---------0----0-----2---2-
---0---------3---3-----0----0---0-0-------
-----------3-------0----------------------
-----------------------
-----------------------
-----------2/4-4-4--4--
-----3-------------3--3
---3---3---------------
-3-------0-------------
Play the main "jig" once for the intro, and then four
times for
the 1st verse, and on the last time, when he slides from
the
A to the B, distortion kicks in
And now the chours, distorted
------------------------------------------
-------B---------B-----------------B------
--2-2--4---------4---------4-4-4---4------
--2-2-------3-3---------0--------3--------
--0-0-------3-3---------0-----------------
------------3-3---------0-----------------
Hey! Wait! (let the sound of the D cord
ring)
Play the chours 6 times I believe, each time
And then, after the sixth time, play this, well call
this
"Thing C", also distorted
-----------------------------------------------------
----------------B------------------------------------
----------------4-4-4-4----------------2/4-4-4---4---
--3--3--3--3--0---------3--3--3--3--0----------3---3-
--3--3--3--3--0---------3--3--3--3--0----------------
--3--3--3--3--0---------3--3--3--3--0----------------
Your Advice..............! (again, let the two D cords
ring)
And heres the SOLO
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------
------B-------B----------------------------------
-0-0-12------10--3--8--7-5-3-2-------------------
---------5-5-----3-------------------------------
Solo (continued) I think the whole solo is distored,
but,
if you want to get the athentisitie of it all, play the
solo with a chorus/flanger pedal up on high, you get
this
really cool sound, and its how kurt plays it live
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
------B-------B----------------2--------
-0-0-12------10--3--8--6-5-3-2-0--------
---------5-5-----3----------------------
Let the last A cord ring out as the bass and drums go
through there parts twice by them selfs, and then, come
in with this
-------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
------------------------2-------------2/4-4-4---4------
----------------------2---2-----3-------------3---3----
--0-----------------0---------3---3--------------------
--------3-----0-------------3-------0------------------
She eyes me...
After the last chours, play this first part three times and
then the second part once Let the last note ring for a while,
this is the outro. And now your done!
(first part) (second part)
------------------------|-----------------------------
----------------B-------|-----------------------------
----------------4-4-4-4-|---------------4-4-4-4-------
--3--3--3--3--0---------|3--3--3--3--0----------3-3---
--3--3--3--3--0---------|3--3--3--3--0----------------
--3--3--3--3--0---------|3--3--3--3--0----------------
Now lets put all this Jibber Jabber,
as Mr. T would say, in order
Intro- One time
Verse- 4 times
Chorus- 6 times
Thing C- One time
Verse- 4 times
Chorus- 6 times
Thing C- One time
Solo
Special Verse
Chorus- 6 times
Then that outro thang
What a wild ride.....OK, so if got any Questions,
comments, suggetions, E-mail me at
Cowguy4017@worldnet.att.net, and, uh, if your ever
in Wisconsin and need a band to play, E-mail me to,
thanks, speacial thanks to lukas

Title:"Heart Shaped Box" by Nirvana.
Album: In Utero
Tab is written by Paul Banfield
Tab Legend
/ = slide up
^ = bend ВЅ step
~ = let ring
Iв^А^Щve been really frustrated because every tab Iв^А^Щve seen of this
song has been in the wrong key. A simple way to tune your guitar for
this song is as follows:
e
B
D
Db
A
Db
And if a tuner is not on hand, just make sure that the 6th string on the
8th fret sounds the same as the 5th string open.
And make sure the 5th string on the 4th fret sounds the same as the 4th
string open.
After youв^А^Щve tuned that, then tune the 3rd string so that it sounds
the same open as the 4th string on the 1st fret.
Hope that wasnв^А^Щt too confusing for you. It shouldnв^А^Щt be.
Alright now hereв^А^Щs the tab for the song (the finger positions are
listed on the bottom):
E----------------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------------
D-------6---------2----------------------------------
Db------------------------------0-----0--------------
A-----6---6-----2---2---------2-----2---2------------
Db--7---------3---------0----------------------------
3 1 2 1 3 1 2 1 1 1 1
E----------------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------------
D-------6--------2-------------------------------------
Db--------------------------4----4---------------------
A-----6---6----2---2----2/4---4----2-2-2/4-------------
Db--7--------3--------0--------------------------------
3 1 2 1 3 1 2 1 3 4 3 4 1 1 1
Drumming starts and you repeat this whole thing 4 more times, except on
the last part where the distortion kicks in at 47 seconds, your going to
play this hard with distortion:
E------------------------------
B------------------------------
D------------------------------
Db--4-4-4-4--------------------
A-----------2-2-2--------------
Db-----------------------------
This is the riff for the hard distorted part (thereв^А^Шs actually two
guitars for this part, but oh well):
E-----------------------------------------------
B-----------------------------------------------
D-----------------------------------------------
Db--------9^----------9^------4-4-4-4----9^-----
A---6-6---------2-2-------------------2---------
Db--7-7---------3-3-------00--------------------
pm pm pm
Then it does the little interlude thing like this:
E-----------------------------------------------
B-------------------------------------------------
D-------------------------------------------------
Db-----------------9^---------------4-4-4-4---------
A---22222222-2222-------22222222-22---------2-2-2--
Db--33333333-0000-------33333333-00---------------
Then it goes back to same pattern as the intro and the whole song is
played over again.
Listen to the song and youв^А^Щll get all the strumming patterns and
everything, now hereв^А^Щs the tab for the solo:
E----------------------------------------------
B-----8^8----6^6----4/5--5-4-2-0---------------
D---6------4------2-----------------------------
Db--------------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------------
Db---------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------
B-------8^8------6^6------4/5--5-4-2-----------
D---5/6------3/4------1/2------------4~~~6~~~
Db---------------------------------------0~~~--
A----------------------------------------------
Db---------------------------------------------
Let that last note ring until it fades back into the intro pattern.
Thatв^А^Щs pretty much the whole song, the way it should be. This was
all my work, so if you have any suggestions on anything I should change
about it, donв^А^Щt even bother e-mailing me or anything because I
donв^А^Щt really care.
